Companies bidding for IPL title sponsorship

Recently in 2020, Vivo called off their title sponsorship for Indian Premier League. Now, there has been lots of talks over who the title sponsor for IPL 2020 will be. Invitation for “Expression of Interest” for bidding was open till 14 August 2020. As we know, the IPL will be held from 19 September to 10 November in UAE, and so the winning bidder will hold the rights for 4 months and 13 days. Today, on 18 August a bidding war is expected and the winning bid is expected not less than Rs440 crore. Below is the list of the main contenders for the IPL 2020 title sponsorship bidding:

Tata Sons

Surely, Tata group’s interest in title sponsorship of IPL 2020 could well make it favourite. Moreover, this purely Indian company could turn out to be an advantage in times of an Anti-China sentiment, which have played a big part in Vivo pulling out of this year’s tournament.
To specify, Tata Sons is leading the race to become the title sponsors. However, choice will be based not only on the bid, but also the impact it will make on the value of IPL.

Dream11

At present, dream 11 is sponsoring BCCI and now they are in the race for IPL 2020 title sponsorship. Also, dream is already the official fantasy league partner for the Indian Premier League.
On the other side, there are chances that Chinese investments could work against them this time.

Patanjali

Undoubtedly, big surprise for everyone throughout India regarding the fact that Patanjali will bid for IPL 2020 title sponsorship. Specifically, Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali said it will come forward only if other Indian corporate houses don’t make any bid.

Unacademy

Similar to Tata, Unacademy is also an Indian brand. Basically, it is an education technology company having 100% Indian investment. Moreover, it is already one of IPL’s sponsors.

Byju’s

Back in July 2019, Byju’s replaced Oppo as official sponsor of Team India. On the other hand, similar to dream11, chinese investments in Byju’s could work against them. Earlier in 2020, Byju’s had initially signed an agreement with KKR for principle sponsorship. However, the deal has been withdrawn now because of Covid -19 pandemic

On 18th Aug 2020, Dream11 wins IPL 2020 title sponsorship for Rs 222 crores.
